Denon avr 2802 no sound on speakers but "works"

Denon 2802 No Sound all else appears to work.

Hey guys.
As of today I have the fix for this. Took me months to do it, but now it's finished.
The problem is the flash chip on de DSP board. I has to be replaced with a working chip.
I have those chips 🙂 After replacing all is OK.
I can service the board , or send the chip, so you can do it yourself.
Mind you, it's a tricky solder job, not for the faint of heart 🙂

Thanks for all your seriously good advice. I have the same issue with my 2802. Would you be able to send me one of the chips so I can replace my faulty device.

Thanks
Max

Hi Sparx59 i have the similar problem with my denon avr 2802 (no sound)
can you tell me which IC you change and work your amplifier?
this flash chip must programed or not?
can you send me this chip? I live in Greece
thanks

DENON 2802 IC817

hello
I have a bad unit with the same problem.
when you said that you replace this IC817 , did you put an empty IC ? or did you program it ?
I am an electronic technician , but don't have this kind of TSSOP programmer.
can you help by sending a firmware file ?
or by selling me a programmed chip ?
thanks in advance
moshe

Dear sparx, I bought used Denon AVR-2802 amplifier and was very satisfied with the sound quality. 1 hour of quality sound and the same no sound issue occurred.

Kindly help me out, I can only solder the DSP IC, Not a programmer to program the IC. Can you help me out so i can revive my money I've spent on it. Because it was non refundable offer.

Folks,
I also have one of these intermittent 2802s I would like to fix. The question about the flash having firmware in it seems to be the important one.

Can I just put in a new Flash (perhaps it just stores settings), or would I need to program firmware in it (perhaps stores the firmware for the DSP chip)? Can someone that has done this replacement please answer this with the correct answer. If it requires programming the flash chip with firmware this could be a show-stopper for fixing the 2802 as I suspect the only way to obtain firmware is to copy it out of a good flash chip.

Thanks

Just put in a new Flash did not work, Flash chip must programmed firmware first.

Some Flash chip legs maybe oxidized and need to desolder from PCB to clean and solder back is ok, you can check the chip condition first.

But most of the time, a Flash chip replacement is needed to repair it.

Folks,
I resoldered the flash pins and also the analog switch IC and connector pins while the board was out. No change.
Perhaps another symptom might be useful. Perhaps I am chasing the wrong symptom.
I can get the receiver to work by presetting it to the settings I need then power cycling the receiver by turning off/on the power strip the plug is in. It will come up working in the mode I set it before power cycle. Volume control works and I get good power to the speakers. I can play with the tuner settings and it work fine. If I set it for VCR1 or DVD, for example, it will take inputs from these.
If I change source I lose audio. If I try to set the source back to the one that was just working, the audio will not come back. I have two choices to get audio back. First if I power cycle the receiver it will come back with audio and the volume control works. Second, if I turn the receiver off/on from the receiver power switch, it might come back with audio but usually the volume control will change the indication but the actual audio will not change level. In this second case I can then power cycle the receiver and it will come back with audio and the volume control works.
It appears the receiver on power up will return to the last settings before power off but many functions do not work if changed with the power on.
Any thoughts?

I would also like to add that all my experimenting works with Stereo mode. If I pick a surround mode (dolby or other) I get no audio. The audio problems (no audio or surround modes) may be related to the flash problem. The inability to make a source change and the need to power cycle the receiver to get volume adjustment might be a separate problem.
Thoughts?
