So, I have a Definitive Technology ProSub800 sub that I bought in America. I've since moved to europe and would like to be able to use it without a step-down converter. Is there a way to convert the built in amp to 230v. I can hire an electrician to do it. I just need to know what to ask them to do?

Much depends on what is inside the power supply.
If it is what we call a 'linear supply' which would use a big and heavy mains transformer then everything depends on whether that transformer has a primary winding with tappings for different voltages.
If it uses an SMPS (switch mode power supply) like a computer or laptop power supply then these usually work without adjustment over a very wide voltage range, perhaps as wide as 90 to 265V.
A picture of the insides would help us advise better.
