Deezer Connect as Debian package for Raspberry Pi streamers - PLEASE HELP!

Hello,

I believe lots of members here use Raspberry Pi for music streaming. Some of you may also be Deezer members and therefore I'd like to ask you for your help.

I've created a thread on Deezer Community forum suggesting that it would be great to have Deezer Connect functionality on our Rpi streamers:
Deezer Connect as debian package for Raspberry Pi streamers. | Deezer Community, bringing music lovers together

If you are also interested in such functionality, could you register on Deezer Community forum and press "Upvote" button to make this idea more popular and visible for Deezer developers?

Thanks a lot in advance and have a great day ;-)

Cheers,
Przemek

Hello everybody,

I’ve created pleezer: an open-source, headless streaming player built around the Deezer Connect protocol. It acts as a remote playback device that can be controlled from the Deezer mobile app. Note that Deezer Connect only works from mobile devices - you cannot control pleezer from desktop apps or the web player.

Important: A paid Deezer subscription is required to use pleezer. The player will not appear as an available device in the Deezer app if you're using a Deezer Free account.

Installation

pleezer can be installed in several ways:
  1. Pre-packaged, for example with moOde audio player.
  2. Building from Rust crates or source.

Important Information

pleezer is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or created by Deezer. It is developed to provide a streaming player that is fully compatible with the Deezer Connect protocol.

pleezer does not and will not support saving or extracting music files for offline use. This project is committed to respecting artists' rights and strongly opposes piracy. Users must not use pleezer to infringe on intellectual property rights.

To comply with Deezer’s Terms of Service, no decryption keys are included in the code.

Happy listening,

Roderick

Deezer is shutting down the backend for Deezer Connect, the protocol that allowed remote control across devices. For many DIY setups — particularly those built around moOde, Volumio, or Linux-based streamers — this is bad news.

As the developer of pleezer, an open-source Connect client, I’ve seen 10,000+ downloads in 6 months. Many use it to get what the official apps don't offer:
  • USB DACs with exclusive access
  • Native Linux support
  • Proper gapless playback
  • Minimalist control interfaces
While the official apps no longer reliably play back via Connect, they still worked great as controllers. That’s why I proposed to Deezer:

Keep the apps as controllers, but don’t advertise them as playback targets anymore. That avoids confusion, costs little to maintain, and keeps pleezer alive.
If you care about maintaining open-source streaming options — especially on custom hardware — please help:
If Deezer sees that these integrations matter to their power users, there's a chance they'll preserve what's still working.

Thank you for the kind words. Now let’s hope that Deezer will revert its decision and keep Deezer Connect available.

If you can, please drop a word over at the Deezer Community site (link above) and show support for Deezer Connect!

I put a like to your comment there.

To be honest - I do not care about Deezer at all, I do not use it (like any other streaming service). If the service owner decides they do not need the subscribers who prefer the service to other (many) options because it offers a reasonable way of integration, their loss. I understand you put a lot of effort into pleezer (the name of which I find clever, with reference to that deeezer forum thread) which I absolutely appreciate and am grateful for - because it's an amazing example of a modern complete Rust project (the same rank as e.g. CamillaDSP) which I can learn a lot from. Unfortunately it all revolves around a proprietary service which can be discontinued by the owner at any moment...
