Hi, I just picked up a free Panasonic PT-200 CRT Projector. Bad news is, it doesn't work. Machine powers up, but no light out of any of the tubes. Doesn't it seem unusual that 3 tubes would be dead? Who would run the thing on just 1 color until it died???
Anyway, I opened the thing up, and there are stickers saying "Danger X-Rays and Rediculus Shock Hazard you're gonna die if you mess with this thing" all over.
My question is, are the lenses on the front of this thing useful for say a LCD DIY? Is this thing seriously dangerous? I can gut it, and build my LCD projector inside, and make it look like an old skool hardcore projector?

Advice?

I would recommend fixing it...
Ebay should be a good source for parts.
It will most likely smoke any DIY projector that you're thinking of building...
Highly unlikely that all 3 tubes are gone...
No, it won't kill you. You just need to be careful because it has a high voltage power supply for the tubes. You will need a service manual. You should also read about proper discharge procedures when working on TV's...
You can learn a lot from this and most likely it is very good when working...
Just my thoughts...

Well perhaps I was a bit rash....
I don't know your trouble shooting ability but if it were me, I would try fixing it first...
That having been said, I searched the web and there doesn't seem to be any info on it. That makes me wonder if the part number you gave is not complete or it's just too old...
Don't know, but I do know that the crt projectors are very good when working...
It'd be too bad to junk it if all that was wrong with it was a bad cap in the power supply...
Good luck!

Yeah, I also searched the web for this thing, and didn't find much. I've never played with one of these things before, so I have to say I don't know what I'm doing. I'm a PC Tech by trade, but this isn't my department!
I looked over the circuits to try and find any blown parts / fuses, but had no luck. I think the boards are working properly, because when you change modes on the control panel, it makes slightly different sounds, not just a dead powerup.
This beast was manufactured in 1990... but man, would it rock to get this thing going.
😀

Pics of this monster
I don't think these pics would help anyone discover my problem. But it's neat to look at the inside of one of these things.
One thing I noticed, there are little lights all over in this thing. I'm assuming these are diagnostic indicators. Well, one of them is off. Does that mean that board has issues? You can see in the last picture, right between the two white nobby things.
