dd/dts/dvd-a external dacs, a million questions

Howdy everyone,

I've laid my hands on a dvd player with a zoran vaddis 5 chip (capable of dvd-a MLP)

I'm wanting to give it digital outs (aes/ebu and or spdif) and have been laying out a digital output board consisting of 3 ad1896's and 3 cs8406's, and using the kwak clock to run the show (ad1896's in master mode) . I've already got a pile of external dacs using the ad1853 AND the ad1896 ASRC.

Brian Brown suggested in the "High Resolution Multi-Channel Digital Interface thread " that three seperate streams would not be in phase sync. The pro audio world (aes.org) seem to be quite concerned about this phase sync with multiple streams of digital audio, but I *think*state its not REALLY an issue until things are down mixed to 2 channel or mono.

I'm left wondering how MSB technology do it with their MDP-x3 processor with 3 spdif outputs, likewise the board from dvd upgrades, DVD upgrades' dvd-a/sacd digital output board

So the three streams will be using the same clock on the tx side, and reclocked at the rx side, though L and R will go via a Tact RCS processor before the dacs/asrc (all sharing the same master clock)

If I wasn't blessed with the Tact RCS I'd be building internal dacs for the dvd-a player and never have to worry about combining the serial data and sending it out.

Some professional audio cards use "word clock" others don't. word clock from what I can gather is the serial bit clock. Is this method of any use?
They use this to sync external dacs or devices, whenever there is more then one unit running?


THe beauty of using the serial data streams that were destinded for the analog output, they appear to allow surround and center channel delay in dvd-a, if not and just dd/dts i can work around it going via my pc with an st audio digital i/o box and wavewarp if it doesn;'t work for dvd-a.



I'm a little lost, but enjoying the ride here. Can someone help me make sense of it all.
