Hi
I am busy modding a DCX2496, put in passive output, wanted to change PSU, dropped the +15 and -15 Volt, because only needed for audio opamps, I thought...
When I started it up, lights come on, display is dead, checked schematics, OK there is a 072 opamp on DSP board, also needs +15/-15 volt power, that will be for the LCD display, does anyone know if the DCX will work without the +15/-15 volt power, I think only when adjusting settings display is needed, or am I wrong?
Cheers, Tom.

It uses the 15v for the mute circuit also, but I guess you won't be retaining that either. I can't see it being used anywhere else than IC15, which is most likely for controlling the display contrast and could be set with a fixed voltage if you are happy to not have that adjustment. You'd have to measure the voltage at LCDVEE at your desired contrast setting to know if you need more than 5v.
but why? IIRC it uses a voltage output DAC, so you are just deleting a voltage buffer and LPF, where one may indeed be needed. what is the input impedance of your amplifiers? you may end up loading the DAC too much and making performance significantly worse.
Hi
I've been listening for many years with passive outputs in the Behringer DCX and DEQ, without any problems, in fact I prefer the passive output, just wanted to make the PSU better and more effective, that is linear….just for the fun of it...
Cheers, Tom.

Fair enough. the PSU can definitely use some work. Its the passive output that I would worry a bit with, if your power amps dont have high input impedance.
I am using a Yamaha RX-V3800 (7 amps inside) as a pre and power-amp, using 8 channel mode, multi channel input, simple and effective, when more power needed, use an extra power-amp, I got a Kenwood Basic M2, DRM Audio upgraded, for the bass channels. Using a Raspberry PI with Moode player, SSD drive, Hifiberry Digi + Pro, straight into digital input Behringer. 6 channels go into Yamaha, from Yamaha to the separate units in the speakers, also 2 x 3 way active set-up.
