DCX2496 for Dummies

I just got a DCX2496 from Parts Express, and I'm looking for a simple users guide or "tips". The manual isn't especially clear for non-audio jocks.

For example, do I download the v1.6 from Berhinger before doing anything else, or does it come installed v1.6?

Can someone direct me to a "New User tips and suggestions" thread if there is one?

The threads I've found are about analogue mods, or other issues.

I just want to use it for a home tri-amped system.

Thanks for your help,

Dave

When I first got mine, I used the computer interface to configure it. After that I got used to the front-panel interface andI haven't hooked it to a laptop since.

Check youtube; someone may have tutorial or something there.

Most of the people there will insist that you use a computer loudspeaker design/ measurement system to get text book acoustic transfer functions but you can make a good sounding crossover by ear especially if you use a DEQ2496 in front of the DCX.
To learn the units, just start paging through all of the screens to see what functions are available.
The biggest pitfall to getting the best sound is getting the right gain structure set up with the amps so that the analog input meters are filled when you are at your desired listening level. You really need multi channel volume control after the DCX. I use stepped attenuators at the amp inputs.

Dangus and Sendler,

Thanks for your suggestions.

I have had LAUD for a while, and I'll use that for measurements. I know it's not current, but it still does a lot. I also made a turntable for taking off-axis measurements. I've gone through D'Appolito's Testing Loudspeakers book.

I don't know why the DCX hasn't been intuitive for me, but it hasn't. I guess it's a learning style constraint on my part.

Thanks for your support.

Dave
