I have two pristine DC300A series II which I may want to run bridged into 4 Ohm. The manuals however don't give ratings for this so perhaps Crown didn't recommend it. Does anyone have experience of running these old amps that hard, perhaps for long periods running a small PA?

They will overheat unless serious cooling air is supplied.
Even then, the fuse (10A for 120V) blows.

Not right....
Crown infact shows how to connect and use the DC300 Series II in bridge mode: http://www.crownaudio.com/pdf/legacy/dc300a2.pdf
Look at page 10.
I have used mine in bridge mode for 5 years now without problems, however prober cooling IS needed if you want to run high power.
Edit/added: Please remember to read the warnings and procedure on page 9 thought 😉

Bridged at 4R?
Speaking from experience doing school dances with two 8R JBL cabinets per amplifier, they will overheat and shut off.
They will also blow the line fuse.
When they blew up, I fixed them.

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep it 8 Ohm.
These are quite lovely amps - full detailed sound to my ear at least. I'm picking them up for a little over 100 quid each.

P.S. And nice to hear from you again DJK - I believe it was you that recommended a tapped horn to me on another board. I'm very happy with the result.
