In the power supply there are 2 caps connected rail to rail
why are they there? I ask this because a while back I built
an amp with 10,000 uf on the + and - rails. I could hear
a big difference when I added another 10,000 uf to each
rail but when I added 60,000 uf rail to rail I could tell no
difference. I was rather disapointed at the time I thaught
I had found a home for those pair of 60,000 monsters.

With these caps (rail to rail) bass becomes stronger, and has more energy below 50Hz...
But...It works better in push-pull schematics...

Power supp question

HI
I would like to ask for help , I don't understand totally the power supp ..
My firs question ppl. usually use small capacitors on the bridge why in here I see resistors ?
Second question what is the meaning of 100mF=100uF or 100 000uF ?
I really would like to try one of the amplifier design by widowmaker .
I most like the 10W SE posted by lineup in another post but there is no PC board layout .
For that amp I have almost all the parts . And SE is my favorite.
Now I found He's another design the 9W on 8ohm is more than enough to me unfortunately PP but still can be very good .At least these has a PC board layout . I have some giant Class A amp like Aleph X but sometimes it would be good to have some smaller (may be better sounding )amp .
Would you please someone answer to me those questions .
One more time I would prefer the 10W SE design but I'm unable to design the layout for the PC board.
Thanks to all , specially to widowmaker !
Greetings

For this amplifier
2SK1530 / 2SJ201 will work, too
they are same as 2SK1529 / 2SJ200

even I think 2SK1058 / 2SJ162 would work here ... ??
at least if we keep +-12 VDC supply
2.32A x 12V = 28 Watt per MOSFET

If we turn widowmaker circuit 'Upside Down'
we can use 2SK389 (dual) for input.
And even one pair of matched 2SK170.

My choice would be:
- Upside Down circuit
- Two 2SK170, matched for input
- 2SK1058 / 2SJ162 for output
- Reduce Current in output to ~1.5-2.0 Ampere
- Keep 2x12 VDC supply
... this would be for driving 6-8 Ohm speakers

I know some power hungery silly Diy people
would try to increase Both supply voltage and current
in their bad hunt for power.
But this amplifier is not about QUANTITY.
It is about Class A QUALITY.

If you are a power maniac, poweroholic (I do not mean gaborbela) there are 1000 other topics for you.
If you prefer loud and bad sounds, so your male friends can see you are One Real Man.

The number of Watts makes the man.
As does the number of zeros '0' in the THD and in the Bandwidth.

I felt myself moved to build....BUT.... i have not complementary fets

I am searching something alike your amplifier...but with same polarity mosfets into the output.

Well.... not really needed to be complementary... as it is single ended...i will try something to force it to operate with the parts i have here.

Nice..... very nice.

Dear Dimitri

Tell us your capacitor suggestion... the value

SE Class A Lateral with JFET input

.
Here is a newer version of this amplifier. July 2008
Is this a better version?
I do not know. But I would guess it is.

Enjoy!
