Has anyone been able to get the old WT3 tester to work correctly running on Windows 10? I have tried everything I can think of with no luck. I've tried all the things describes in this post:
Faulty Dayton WT3... and more.
Compatibility modes:
Mic levels from 1 to 100 (40-50 seems best)
All enhancements off in Windows and Realtek controls.
The software (all versions) does run and will open old files, but new sweeps and calibration don't work. The best I can get is the plot seen below.
The hardware seems to work, it can send and receive audio in other software and measures flat in HOLMimpulse and ARTA. I have two of the devices, both show identical results. It's impossible to calibrate the leads, the software returns and error saying that the lead resistance is too high. Default calibrations don't do any better.
Is there some setting in Win10 that's I'm missing? The last time this functioned properly was under Win7. Since using win10 the results are obviously bad.

Wt3 works in Linux , Redmond has bought a 15 % share in the Linux Foundation as Windows is a minority system over ALL types of other systems combined -IE- mobiles etc so has bought into it .
MS has approved virtual LInux ( its own version ) on W10 so maybe you could install it that way .
I only use LInux ( Manjaro ) and I can download your app but many users on Windows say--upgrade to DATS .
Apart from regaining control of my OWN paid for PC years ago I no longer have to worry about that "great god " MS- Redmond deciding how I use my own paid for computer and guess what ?---no snooping on ARCH + no cost to download or forced to use Windows app store if you want full use of your computer + no giant system updates taking forever nor blue screens nor MS deciding what apps you can install on your own paid for computer.
Happy days !

It's worth a try I suppose. But running the software under LInux? How does that work? I do have an old laptop with Ubuntu installed and might try that.
I really would like to get it running on Windows 10. The new DATs is not an option for me.

I did try Ubuntu at one time but money talks its gone into "partnership " with MS but yes Ubuntu supports it .

The record and playback levels for the audio chips (see the Sound settings) can be quite touchy in the WT3. I had to have the record levels set quite low to avoid clipping.
There was also a pin left open on a CMOS chip in an early version of one of the testers (not sure whether WT3 or DATS) that could cause intermittent non-operation -- the pin would float high or low depending on how traces leaked. Sorry I dont have details anymore (I was able to fix it back then by strapping a pin to ground) but my fix for quite a while was to just disconnect/reconnect and keep trying.

I did ask, yes. The answer was "Buy the new one."
Funny thing is, the device seem to work fine as a soundcard, but the WT3 software just doesn't do correct measurements with Windows 10. I tried to use it as an REW impedance jig, but never could get it calibrated.

got a WT3 laying around too - would not work properly with W10 and DATS software (lost the original WT3 disc years ago) - ridiculous for Microsoft and also for not having better support.
Thanks Freddi, that was going to be my next question. Will the WT3 work with the DATS software? Seems not. Too bad. 🙁
I have a WT3 and disc that I have never used... Following to see if I want to try to make it work. I would do a virtual machine in virtualbox.
If you need a copy of the disc I can make an iso and put it on a share.

Thanks Troy. I have the original software disc and have downloaded all the updates. The software runs and functions as expected - except for the erroneous values after a sweep.
Let me know if you get in running on a VM. That might be the way.

Hi Pano, how are you? Did you ever get your WT3 working?
I was going through my junk and found mine, decided to see if it still works. Took some messing around, but it's working just fine on the latest Windows 10 version (20H2).
Remembered I bought the last software update back in 2011. Checked my email and to my surprise the download link I was sent still works. I've uploaded it here. Version not mentioned so this post is not searchable, for obvious reasons.
I followed the Vista instructions, but instead of mic level 25, 30 seems to work better for me. Did not need to run it in compatibility mode.
Ciao, back into the shadows I go!

Good to see you again! No, I didn't get it work under 10. Just this morning I ordered a copy of Windows XP to restore an old Dell laptop what the WT3 used to work on.
I would love to get it working on W10, tho. Cheers!

Works fine for me. Have to find the download link among all the clutter. Get a ZIP file containing a PDF and an EXE. Supports a couple versions of Windows from a decade ago.

I just noticed something I find amusing from my original purchase email...
"Note that the download file password will be change regularly so please download and backup your new WT3 software promptly."
10 years later and the download link still works and the password is the same (original file was a protected self-extracting archive).

BTW, thanks very much. The software works for me under Win10, running it in Vista mode. It installed that way, so I just left it. The mic volume seems to work at 25-35% as long as calibration is done. What's optimum? I don't know.
I suspect that the old software would have worked if I had known to check on the "2 channel device at 44.1K" settings. Mine was set to 1 channel 48K on my laptop and that's likely what gave the strange readings. All working now, Impedance, T/S and the LCR section. Excellent!

Yeah, that was for sure the problem as I was having trouble until I changed it as well. Oh well, at least you have the update with LCR tests now. Glad you got it working!
Me too, thanks!
Years ago I moved off of Win2000 to Win XP and could not find the WT3 software. I asked P.E. if I could buy a new copy of the software. Yes - $50 - but you have to have your receipt for the WT3. Bizarre. Of course I didn't have the receipt, so didn't buy it. Later I found a copy and got it working on Win7. But going to Win10, it didn't work anymore . I searched and read about it everywhere I could. No luck until you posted. The setting might work for people with the old version of the software.
Thanks again, it's nice to have this working anew.
