Dayton vs Seas

Hi

I have DD8mkII speakers (from Tony Gee) made in closed box. I want to add subs. Firstly with Tony we decided to do it with seas L26. But my local distributor is very slow!!(have ordered them 6moths ago) I decided to order speakres in USA. So now have many opptions.

I want to stay with al cones.

these are my options:

seas L26RFXP

firstly planed to cross passively but now tend to active crossover. If I use daytons would use 2 for same impedance (8ohm)

also have in mind to build it like this: closed box, one woof fireing inside second outside. This should provide less distortion. Don't know much about this... are there any info? can you link me something?

sorry for english

any help appreciated

thanks for reply

well I know 15" will give less distortion but will need much space. I dont want this for PA applications. This will be HT sub in normal room with max 6x6 m

At the moment I think of 2x12" sub. I have photos of two designs. This is the one I was describing

My HT is a 5:0 set up with 3-way speakers instead of satellites and single central sub. The front stereo 3-ways are ideal for stereo listening, and having two woofers breaks up the room modes more than one sub. If you cross satellites to a sub above 60 Hz you start to lose some stereo imaging information.

You may want to read some of the posts comparing 3-way HT vs. satellite + sub.

Hi chaine, until I read your post I was not aware of these particular Vifa woofers. Are they fairly new?

They look like excellent choices for sealed box use which I much prefer over vented. I bet using 2 pairs push pull is scary good.🙂

i seam to be the only one who as used them on this forum!!i've suggested them to people but nobody has tried.this is one great little subwoofer.it's the most musical sub i ever heard ,with some very nice punch.i'm only using one pair push pull right now as i have not finished the second box yet and yes it's "scary good" just with 2.4 may be overkill-we will see😉.
yes it is a odd woofer for vifa, but as far as i can tell, according to solen-it was a custom design for totem acoustic.

AH! now that you mention it ,that unique carbon fibre dust cap(or is it a phase plug) does look exactly like the one in Totems subwoofer.

I think I will check with Solen for price and availability.

BTW overkill is always a good thing.😀
