Dayton III MTM's

I just completed this project. The speakers are Dayton III's, dayton 1-1/8" silk dome tweeters and dayton 6 1/2" woofers.
The design is by W. Jaeschke at speakerbuilder.net.
I am really impressed with how good these speakers sound. This is only my second speaker project and I was a little concerned that I would make some serious mistakes . Thankfully that didn't happen.

I did paint the tweeter face plate just for looks,W.A.F.

I also found an idea for spikes that worked very well. The spikes are 125 grain archery field tips with the inserts and 1/4" stainless washers. These were very cheap and can be found at any archery or hunting supply shop.
I drilled small divets into nickels for the base, so.. that increased the cost by 40cents.

Good idea with the speaker spikes. Whenever I buy accessories (spikes, grill cloth, terminals, and etc.) I always feel like I'm being taken for a ride. Reminds me of going to the hardward store, when they call a product by a different name and sell a tenth as much at twice the price (i.e. bleach, silicone, xylene).

Paint

Hi Dennis,

Thank you.
The front is painted with American Accents (by Rust-Oleum)Stone Creations . This paint went on very well and left a fairly smooth textured finish. If I were starting over , I would use only the American Accents brand.

The rest of the speaker is painted with Manhatten Mist ,FleckStone Paint by Plasti-Kote. This paint didn't spray to well. It would put out lots of paint and then lots of thinner. It didn't matter how well it was shaken. I think I used 3 cans to get good coverage.
(Actually I used 5 cans, but I sanded and repainted once. The short story is that I applied Minwax poly over the paint, it took on an amber color that I didn't like so I resanded...bla bla blaa added 2 more days of work)
I am happy with the finished look now.

The Tweeter face plate was painted with Dupli-Color T170 Silver.
I like the Dupli-Color for a smooth gloss finish. It sprays very well and lays down great.
