Can anyone who is experienced with DATS v2 answer a simple but possibly foolish question? I've a woofer mounted in a sealed enclosure now - perfect for measuring VAS. But, can I just do all my TS parameter measurements mounted in the box? Or does it have to be in free-air? Free air would be a bit of a logistical pain at the moment, is why I ask.
No. 🙂
The TS parameters are free air, and are used to design the enclosure, but often when you buy from Parts Express or Madisound they already give you recommended cabinet sizes.
What you should measure with DATS in a box is the impedance.
That impedance curve, combined with your frequency response, and baffle step compensation data (if any) are what you'll use to design your crossover.
Best,
E
