I would like to be able log voltages via my laptop, can anyone recommend some software which can do this? Ideally I would like to be able to set the logging rate (eg .1 – 1000Hz) and save to a txt or csv file (I will post process in Excel) It is important that the time as well as the voltage are logged.

For info, I currently use an external sound card and have installed the AudioTester software which works OK.

You can try Dewesoft X2.
Downloads | DEWESoft(R)

The software is meant to be used with the hardware for datalogging, but it is also possible to use the sound card (meant more for trying out the software).

When you install make sure you select all the addons, otherwise you wont have the sound-card option.

There is an online tutorial on how to set this up, log some data and export to txt.

Thank you for your reply, I have attempted to use the software but whilst the soundcard option is available, there are no channels I can select. I also tried running an earlier version of the software with an external soundcard but again this was not a success (USB Drivers would not install)

I have started to write a LabView program to achieve my aims but this will take a time....................
