Some friends and I are in the process of purchasing a school bus and converting it to a party bus to drive around campus (UC Davis) picking up people who will then be taken to the middle of nowhere (which is only 15 minutes from our lovely campus), at which point the passengers will unload and the dance party will begin.
I have done a great deal of online research into the sound system, but still feel uncomfortable investing in a set up, as there is so much to know. Perhaps you could critique my set up?
(2) 18" folded horns, 186 horn with Eminence Omega Pro 18 from speaker plans mounted in underhand storage area of bus.
(4) Brown Soun 15" cabs mounted on top of bus facing down /45 degrees to one another (all 4 on one side). I am thinking about purchasing these from a very friendly local for $400 total. Seems like a good deal to me. What do you think? This is the most pressing part advice wise as I am mid-negotiation.

(1) crown xls2500 for the 2 bins
Crossover done through the amps.
Amps run off of large (~600 pound) battery bank and DC/AC converter.
Any advice would be absolutely wonderful! Especially regarding the Craigslist special.

The 186 horn looks a little lean in the bass region. Its about 8 dB down at 40 hz which is not desirable due to the majority of EDM bass is in the 35 - 65 hz range except for Dubstep which goes lower. If you could give an idea as to actual dimensions of the storage areas that would be helpful. As well how many people will be attending( probably the capacity of the bus right?) I take it you want to bridge the output of the xls 2500 for the subs right?
Those browns look pretty good though🙂 just make sure you listen to them before you buy them, to make sure all the drivers work.
Good choice for the amps they sip power, very efficient! They'll let your batteries last longer than regular non smps amps. You may find the Browns will outrun the subs output-wise, so you'll probably have to turn them downa bit... I try to run my subs at least 6 dB louder than my mid/highs.
How do you intend to charge the batteries? How long do you exepct them to hold a charge at what power & volume levels? Plug-in when stationary? A bank of 6 dual-output alternators on the bus engine? Big diesel generator under the bus?
If you're going to run from battery power, car amps should be more efficient. Maybe use those for driving around, then deploy a gasoline or diesel generator when you arrive on site.
If the bus windows are high enough up, mount the speakers inside. That would help with weather and theft protection, and reduce the height of the vehicle.
