Hi Navin, I was just suggesting it as an idea for an experiment, rather than a possible solution to your problem😀
Next time I blow up a driver I might have to give it a go...

bad news...
Navin,
This afternoon , I was speaking with a technician at Focal. They don't supply any spare parts for drivers under 10 inch. The only answer is to return the driver at the factory, because the driver must be totally rebuilt with new process.
I'm afraid that Audax will give similar answer. You can email to the major distributor in france, Electronique 44, which claims to be working with the entire world : info@e44.com
But you can visit www.e44.com where you can see the entire range of Audax Drivers, and others...
Regards, Pierre Lacombe.

I know the electronics are a solution for the future. I was refereing to your "tangent" 🙂
pierre,
How can I thank you.
1. It would be cheaper (thanks to customs, shipping etc) for em to buy new drivers than return these for repairs.
2. I have emailed e44 but no news from them
3. I am more worried about getting recone kits for the Focals as there are 4 of them and they are heavier to ship and since they use edge wound flat coil it is difficult to get the wire here.
Thanks a lot anyway. If you can contact e44 (if it not a problem) maybe they will respond to a phone call. I can send you a copy of my email if need that.

to sum this thread it seems that my best bets are Pierre and Peter. Odd the name translates to the same. 🙂
If e44 can help with the Audax and Orca can help with the Focals...i have crossed every finger and toe I got....
come one guys lets start praying.....

Peter, does it make sense to use the recone kit for another Focal woofer that fits in the gap.
If so I would need to get the coil dia, gap, etc. of the 8N515s.
The Lvc is 16mm, the Hgap is 6mm and the Dvc I think is 25 or 40mm. Would Orca know and be able to help.
Thanks.

I'll try to contact Orca tomorrow. E-mail me privately regarding what you want me to ask them, as well detailed info regarding your drivers.
Thanks a lot for all the help.
what is your email address. mine is navin@vsnl.com.
1. Given the fact that I cannot buy/import new driver what is the best solution?
2. the woofers are 8" Focal 8N515 with Neoflex cones. I dont think Focal uses Neoflex cone anymore. Although I got my drivers in 1987 I got these specs fro JMLAB / Focal on 17-Mar.-98.
Fs = 27Hz
Rcc = 7.84 ohms
Qes 0.260
Qms = 3.490
Qts = 0.242
D = 16.80cm
Mms = 26.5 gms
Sd = 221 cm2
Vas = 92 liters
Rms = 1.278kg/s
Cms = 1.34 e-3 m/N
Ces = 197 mF
Les = 179.81 mh (Eletrical inductnace representatin driver compliance)
Res = 105.24 ohms (driver resistace representating driver suspension losses)
Cas 6.57 e-7 m5/N
Ras = 2600.19 ohms.ac (Acoustic resistance of driver suspension losses)
Bl = 11.60 N/A
T = 436.09 ms-2 (acceleration factor I think)
Lvc = 16mm
N = 0.65 %
No = 90.13db/W/m
Hgap = 6mm

I was talking to Mark from Orca at the folowing number 805-484-4355 and he just confirmed what was said before. Focal doesn't provide any cone kits for drivers below 10" diameter. Sorry.
good new bad news...
here is an update...
i went over to my BIL's place last night. Guess what.
he had the balance knob over to one side so that is why the second channel had no sound. When I set up the system I had told him not to touch anything but the volume knob....anyway now we have a different problem.
One channel is blown. That means of 4 Focal woofers 2 are ok 2 are not. Of 2 Audax mids 1 is ok 1 is not.
Now the question is if I can get the Audax recone kit. If I can get that I can junk one pair of Focal woofers and build a 2.5 way using 1 8" 1 6" and 1 tweeter per channel.
i dont know if this is good new or bad news.

Re: good new bad news...
I think it's a good news. If you decide to do nothing about it, you have a perfect center channel speaker for your home theatre setup.😉
