DAC Testing Software

It is with some trepidation that I post this software. My previous contribution was not well received. DACTester generates test tones, which can be saved as a wave file to be later burned into a CD, or if the PC has S/PDIF or USB output, the waves can drive the DAC directly and all parameters can be modified in on the fly. Of course, the quality of the digital out depends on the quality of the CODEC in the PC.

Here are the ground rules. I wrote this software for myself and it works properly on my system. If it works for you, that’s good, enjoy it. If it doesn’t work, that’s too bad, but I don’t want to hear about. I can’t fix what ain’t broke. If you want bloatware that is likely to run on every PC ever made, go out and buy it.

DACTester.zip contains the exe and a readme file that describes the operation of the program. The rest is up to you.

Thats the way to do it...
Many people forget that freeware software is actually "free" and become rather rude when they have problems and expect answers.
Best thing to do is just ignore those people.

Thanks for the software... works fine here.

Hi Ulas,

Many thanks, also works fine here – where as, dare I say I could not get your Jitter software to run….

If you don’t mind, a couple of questions,

To what resolution is the tone generated – i.e. 32Bits dithered to 16Bits, can it support 24Bit output?

You know, hand someone a bone and they take your arm, for a later date, how about selectable IMD test tones and Jitter test signals?

And while your at it, any chance you could get it to make me breakfast in the morning?

Once again many thanks,

John

Looks like 24bit is supported under the configure button ?

Works fine for me too.

Well done John.
Why dont you consider donations ?
Define a set of features, probably from users
Decide you want say $500 to do them
Anounce it and say that when you have the donations you'll do the software upgrade.

Just a thought,

Brian.

Excellent; thanks.

Thre square wave shows up an unusual aspect of my Terratec EWS 2496 card. On the negative going cycle, there is a small, narrow tophat on top of the top hat. This is not on the software wave file without going thru' the card.

I wonder why, and what effect this has on sound quality

😕
