I am unable to see the option to view the two layers. I am able to tick and untick only the layers containing the blocks I mentioned. Is there a different viewing and editing mode? The default mode I entered into was allowing me to edit.

If you have access to gerbers and IPC-356 netlist there is great, free tool for viewing boards - ZofzPCB: FREE 3D Gerber Viewer + Premium STEP Export
3D view of PCB with net highlighting, components and etc.

Gerbers are in the ES9038PRO evaluation board zip file. I was going to suggest the free version of ViewMate, but ZofzPCB looks better.

Thank you. When opening the gbr files for the ESS reference project, I am getting the following syntax error. "complex apertures tracks not implemented" for the topsilk.gbr file. I am unsure what that means and how to fix it.

The Geber file folder also comes with a set of PDFs for each layer. Not the ideal way to visualize the tracks, but currently I am using it to see how the signals flow.

If ZofzPCM doesn't work, then I would suggest to try the free version of Viewmate (which tested okay with the ESS gerbers).

well what to do than I need to make use of the linkplay a28 module.
How do you select the oscillator

is it suppose to be 49.158MHz or 50.000MHz

Its 45.1584 MHz or 49.1520 MHz. Look them up in the table at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_oscillator_frequencies

Also see the table on page 4 of ES9023 dataheet. For async mode, probably what you want to use, either of the above frequencies should work for 24/192kHz audio (although 'best performance' will only apply up to 24/96).

yes, i am having difficulty understanding that table, This would be my first DAC-based project.

I2S signal names are explained at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I²S

Fs is the frame sample rate. For PCM its the LRCK frequency (e.g. 44.1kHz, 192kHz, etc.).
