DAC AD1862: Almost THT, I2S input, NOS, R-2R

What is the connection between the absence of a recovery (reconstruction) filter and the NOS?
NOS/OS - reffer to the Difital Filter, reconstruction filter - is alwayas analogue.
With NOS with this filter, everything becomes more complicated than with OS, especially in its absence.

Often I saw people that doesn't like had a not too much good loudspeakers with too much flat poweresponse and they attribute the NOS disconfort because of that. Also people often do not make the effort needed on the layout to make it sounds nice : power supply home work, extended tries with the passive parts and btw it is very seeable here, people want simple past and copy design, put the famed gold caps body because everyone does; the diy for them starts and stops to soldering the parts and wire two devices.
I also have 2 older TDA1541 NOS dacs. AYA and my own design with a tube buffer. Both are nowadays used only rarely. Some prefer NOS, some don't. No need for the typical audiophile commentary ("your system/PSU/parts is not good enough").

As for me, AKM and Rohn are much better. (But ESS wins in measurements).

P.S. I'm also have AD1862 and TDA1541A. With NOS it possible to use with tube SE amplifier only, and not with all music.
Over generalisation, I heard very serious dac constructor thinking the opposit saying akmwas not natural sounding so much when with embeded filtering. Rogic for instance.

As for the tube there is no point imo, that's myth.

It's because you know about them! "To know what I'm listening" - is a huge factor!
Many delta-sigma DACs are behind me. I listened to them by plugging it in and letting it play for a month or so and then switched. The music played in the background and I "forgot" while working on the PC. After a few hours of listening I experienced discomford, disturbance and I had to turn off the music. Somehow I came across the Pavouk website and it was first time I tried his AD1865. I honestly did not believe that the old DAC with worse parameters could play better than the new technology, curiosity made me give it a try. The AD1865 played quite nicely and I really liked the sound. I noticed that it doesn't disturb me while working. I didn't need to turn off the music and this was something new to me. I thought that was specific to AD1865. Then I tried PCM1704, AD1862, ... with the same experience. I switched back to different delta-sigma many times and I forgot about this switch, but this disturbance remains. I tried the R-2R with digital filters and this disturbance was back. The only explanation for me is the digital filter. Maybe it's something else, but I haven't found another explanation yet 🤔 Many people who switched to the R-2R without a digital filter felt a kind of relief. I'm glad I'm not alone, otherwise I would think I have a mental disorder 🤣

But it could, that's a reality I often seen, so rigth worth to be said here ! But I can agree tastes can be involved, and very few nowadays still go to not not amped live venues in town.

when the bass is get rigth I am not sure for illustration that is just coloration. Again my ref is not amped acoustic live music, so expectations are high ! Although I like also more easy Rock n'roll too and here I am more easy and forgiven ! 😉

This is not totally correct. It is possible to use delta-sigma modulators without any reconstruction filter (i.e. NOS) just as R2R dacs. The resulting frequency response is the same as in R2R. AK449x dacs have a filter mode for NOS (Digital Filter Bypass Mode).
I tried AK4495 with all filters and the sound was like from a sewer. Did you try the AK449x without digital filter? I did not tried it 🙂

Maybe your AK4495 came from a sewer. As with AD1862 or any other dac chip it is all about the implementation. Just mentioning the dac chip does not tell anything.

I have tried AK4490/3 without digital filter. Sounds quite ok.
