Wondering if this is a good replacement for the D1302 or anyone know of a better replacement?

Probably not. The C-E saturation voltage isn't likely low enough. The lowly 2N3904 may work but the HFE is a bit low.
Whatever you use, you need to compare (sub vs original transistor) the voltage on pin 2 of the 21844 when muted.
