I am busy studying Self's "Audio Power Amplifier Design Handbook", which is all discrete circuitry. I expected his preamp designs to be discrete as well. Imagine my surprise when the "Precision Preamp" turns out to be an opamp design - with tone control circuitry. We live and learn. No wonder you prefer JLH's stuff.
