Cyrus One V6 - Phono Pre Amp Gain

Hey guys,

Hope you’re all staying safe and well.

I’m using a Cyrus One V6 solely as a phono stage in my setup. Naturally it is quieter than let’s say a CD input but it still seems a little on the quiet even as a phono stage. I love the quality of the sound and I’m wondering if any of you guys know of any “mods” to squeeze a little more gain?

Thanks guys

It appears there is a MM/MC switch in the first stage. If the MC position has too much gain, the value
of the MM gain resistor to ground can be decreased. Half as large would be around +6dB more gain.
Use a 1/4W 1% metal film type.

Can the MC be bypassed? Also please can you help specify exact type resistor, I have a little experience but not sure on this one.

Also what is the reference number of this resistor on the schematic please?

Thanks, Jools

The MC/MM functions use the same circuit, just the gain of the first stage is changed with a switch.
First check the MC gain to see if that will work well enough. The resistor is a generic 1% tolerance
metal film type. Any power rating will do, but 1/4W is usually the smallest size. If this is the right
manual, the resistors are R21 and R22. Where would you get the parts from?

Thanks Rayma,

Yes that is the correct manual and I normally use these for parts:

No change at all?! Your left and right channels should be wildly out of balance now, as you modified R39 but not R40. R21/22 should have been 150R stock, so 220 wouldn't make much of a difference (not in the right direction either).

If there is literally no difference, the whole phono section may not be working properly for whatever reason. A check of the opamp power pins may be in order.
