Current source in DDAC1543 to do I to V conversion?

Forgive me for this question. It does not really belong in the digital forum I suppose and it is one that stems from utter ignorance.

But since it has to do with my DDDAC1543
I dared to ask it here.

A resistor is a current to voltage converter. In tube amps often a current source is used to replace a resistor for it's current to voltage job.

Often a simple little CCS is effective. And for this I use a DN2540. My question is: "Could a single depletion mode mosfet replace the resistors in Doede's DAC?" or is there simply not enough voltage to get it to work ? Or are there still other factors at work that would make this a misarable failure.
If it would work "Which I doubt" for what current would the CCS have to be set?

Regards,
Bas
