I have a very difficult speaker, Apogee Scintilla, impedance dropping to 0.7 ohms or so.

Maybe a tweaked Aleph 1.2 would do the job.
I think it would have to be tweaked quite a lot.

I've made a Howland Current Source with an LM3886 -- and it wasn't very happy! The OPA2544 did a better job. Probably not enough current for what you're trying to do...
