Current best DIY preamp?

I just a search and found a few recommended preamps. Just wondering if there is some fanatic that has tried or built many of them that can comment on which is preferred. I want something relatively simple that sounds great.

How about foreplay or crack.

There's this little goober that never excites anyone...

I built something like it as a buffer with a little gain to bring the level from my phono preamp up to that from my DAC. It works, is extremely quiet, and gives a little 'tube sound' to my Hagerman Bugle. It's very modest.

It's a CCDA and it's missing it's safety diode... They sound very nice.
