Curious

Hi guys,

I've got a curious question. I have 2 old Technics amplifiers that put out 115w/ch, with each one powering a pair of Technics A-70 3 way towers. When I run them at a high volume, they barely get warm to the touch, but when I run them at lower volumes, they get extremely hot. Any ideas? Do they just like running loud?😀 Maybe something to do with fan speed vs. volume? I noticed the same thing when I used one to power the subwoofer I just built. Seems very strange.

You say it has an active fan? I might guess that if the designer had control over the temperature they might choose to run it warm except when being driven hard where they might choose to let the fan have its way?

How hot does it get?

I have a Technics amp as well. The fan kicks on at 1 wpc. When listening at that level, the fan kicks on and off with the transients. It gets hot when on but not used and it gets hot when used very lightly. It runs very cool once the fan turns on.
