I'm planning a new build and going the route of full range drivers. Not sure if the new speakers will be OB or in a box. I was very interested in Lii at first, but in looking and reading I came across the Cube Audio drivers, especially the FC8 which is their least expensive offering. They look the part and reviews of their finished speakers are all very good. Has anyone used the FC8? I'd love to hear any impressions. I have a feeling even their cheapest driver will outrun the best Lii has to offer.
I have pairs of the two more expensive versions, and I think the Fc8 is a fairly good bet.
I like the Lii's also, but the Cubes are bit more neutral.

Thanks for responding Nelson, that's enough to fortify my leanings in the Cube direction. I'm waiting to hear back from the folks at Cube, looking at the damping of their drivers it looks like they really aren't suitable for OB implementation, but they may say different based on experieice. If they're not, I'll have to either use the FC8 in a TL or a Voigt enclosure, or maybe even better a backloaded horn, but designing that is a bit above my pay grade. At least with boxes I'll still be able to use my REL, which I understand isn't the greatest idea to mix with open baffles.
Open to any ideas!

Did you feel the Neo was a better driver in any way? Looks like it should be but I’ve been deceived by looks plenty of times! The Silver-8 is probably the most likely candidate for me, but Cube’s Magus looks awfully impressive from what I’m reading. I’m going to go check out the slob, thanks for the heads up guys.Have had the Fast-8 and othe F8 Neo in the SLOB with the 6/24 crossover and two amp camp amps. Either way you are in for a treat. I am interested in the lii silver-8, has anyone had experience with that in the slob?
Thank you Nelson! Had a good look and read about the slob tonight, if I go OB that's the one, love the low profile and the way the woofer loads. The only thing holding me back is the need for more amplification unless I use a passive xover, and the whole gist of this go around is to go direct as possible from a smallish SET amp To the driver. I'm looking at a single driver in a folded Voigt design provided by Cube Audio, or Steve Deckert's HDT. BUT, the great thing about this slob design is I could whip off a pair in literally 2 hours (I'm a woodworker) and try it out. Even if I end up loving one of those boxes, it's the OB thing that really inspired me in the first place.
I rebuild a Cube Audio before, the original paper is on the thick side and uses phenolic former for voice coil with double CCA wire winding. The thicker paper made it sound more lush and warm in my opinion.
Hi,
Oh, how great, nearly flat response and impedance... but wait, 100dB difference along the x-axis...
The TSP seem to confirm what Ghemml says, Mms is quite high.
Sorry for niggling.
All the best
