CS 8412 CP not obsolete

Yes, you read it correctly. I just had a call from my parts supplier that my CS8412's had arrived. When I asked for the datecode he carefully watched and said: 0237. His supplier had 269 pieces in stock in contrary to one month ago when price had risen to 42 Euros a piece and only 5 were left !!

It seems that the chip is in production again. Good news for builders of the Kusonoki style DAC's I guess. Unfortunately there is a minimum amount that has to be ordered.

If this isn't spamming ( !?!?! ) I can ask my parts supplier if he is willing to take orders from people from abroad.
 
Th major difference between CS8412 and CS8414 is the sampling frequency indication.

The fact that Cirrus has removed CS8412 is a strong indication of "obsolete", same phenomena as with my CS4328.

Per, as I stated in my post they have arrived with new datecodes and ............. Please read my post again. As far as I know the chips are at least 1.5 years obsolete. Howcome they have 2002 datecodes ? I doublechecked this by calling the supllier as well as the distributor. It could be a rerun of Crystal because of demand !?!?

And the discussion about Dil/ SMD, 96 kHz/ 48 kHz or that the 8414 is better according to some people ( talk, talk ) is absolutely not relevant if you have a device that uses a 8412.Or if you want to build a Kusonoki style DAC and you absolutely despise SMD.
The report you hear from me that it may not be the best chip in the world but it certainly is a good one for building simple DAC's with very good results. It is also cheap compared to other products. By the way, which other products ? :xeye:
Besides some Crystal and BB products there is nothing left for DIY.

I think always about the future. I don't make any designs with "suspected" parts. I want my designs to live for a while, especially if I make expensive pcb's. The fact that Cirrus has removed the datasheets is a strong indicator. Also 44/48 sampling frequency is the past (according to the market).

I stand a little aside in this debate. I think that CS8414 is more or less the chip except for the PLL. I think CS8412 is excellent for high expectations and CS8414 is not worse.

The DIY part, 50 mil pin spacing is not a problem to solder for most people but 0.65 mm is not so easy. :(

Is newer always better ?

Well you can orders hundreds now if you want your designs to live for as while. What is dictated by the market doesn't have to have an effect on me or you because normal cd's still are the same as 15 years ago. And we're DIY ers and not regular consumer sheep remember ? You should go to a shop and listen to the newer DVD players. You will go home with the feeling that 16 bit and the TDA1541 weren't that bad after all.

I like the fact that a good part is back again, although it will probably be for a very short time. If "suspected" parts are to be avoided people shouldn't buy the leftover NOS 6SN7's or 6922 anymore.
They are obsolete and not recommended for new design.
Maybe you are manefacturing series of HiFi devices. Most people here don't and build only a few DAC's ( at most ). They may be happy to be able to use the hard-to-get part again.

hi there,

Just for some extra info, I recently bought the 8412 through the "onderdelen specialist" which in it's turn gets it's parts from 'Display'. delivery time was three days and the price 20 euro's. The dealer was ARP. I'm sorry but Idon't have any url's at hand but this should say enough to the dutch guys. I don't know wheter display will supply outside of the netherlands.

Just avoid early revisions of the CS8412. The later they are made the better they are.

Sometimes you get a CS 8412 IP instead of a CP. Do not reject them since they have tighter specs ( -40 to +80 degrees Celsius ).
I once had some at hand but wasn't able at the time to compare them to the normal CP version. According to another frequent poster the 9627 datacode pieces really are bad compared to later ( revision C and beyond ) versions.
I have experience with the 9737 GTASRG and the 0043 GTASAG and they both perform very good. The latter seems a bit better though.

As you'll see from quote below Mr. Yamada of Zanden bought the whole remaining stock:;)

Big Batch?? Tell More!

I just read the review on the Zanden DAC, (Gosh!) I'm really interested in finding some TDA1541AS1 (or S2), do you have any more information regarding the batch of S1 chips? I understand that Marantz have (had) some S2 chips for high prices, anyone know who has stocks of either version and prices?
