I often experience problems with the foam sheets some record compagnies (for example, Philips and DGG) place in their LP boxes. The problem is that, over time, the sheets seem to crumble and eventually turn to dust.
This dust pollutes the LP’s and leave them unsupported, so they are prone to warping inside the box. Am I the only one experiencing this problem, and does anyone have a suggestion for what to replace these foam sheets with?
It is clear that it should be made of a material stable over time and kind of soft, without giving of chemicals which are harmful to the LP’s. Corrugated cardboard was my first thought, but maybe someone has a better idea?

Corrugated cardboard is dirty and scratchy and will fall-apart in time. (Look at an old pulp paperback book.)
Mat-board, sold for picture frames, is available in "archival grade" which should last longer.

Also acid free foam core, also used for framing, would work too.
Those Philips box sets are the worst for the "foam dust" problem.

Just remove the foam - hopefully before it has started to crumble.
You don't need it if you store your LPs vertically.

It just ocurred to me: why not replace the foam sheets with the most obvious thing: LP's?
I have lots of junk LP's that are just awaiting a trip to the nearest recycling store.

Those plastic bags colombia used at the end were great.
Just plain paper sleeves is fine. Anything to keep the cardboard crumbs off. If you just put them in the carboard outer sleeve, you have to wash them occasionally to get the particals off.
If they don't make them anymore, one could fold and glue up paper sleeves out of wrapping paper that doesn't shed.
