Hi all.

I was wondering what you would say the maximum acceptable useage time on a used crt would be and how to find out if a crt had any burn in. Also, my friend has an sharp qa-2500 and a 6000 lumen 9800 projector and i am dissatisfied with the image quality and contrast he is getting, would a nice crt (like $200-300 without shipping) be a lot better than his? THanks.

$200 - $300 crt is very old. will probably have alot of burn in. you can see burn in on the tubes themselves. it'll look smuggy and dark. replacement tubes are very expensive unless you're lucky and find them on ebay. crt tubes usualy last around 10,000 hours. but you can find some with 5000 hours and have alot of burn in. ask for hours and condition of tubes & if they have been replaced.

sony 1270 series are good crt pjs. might want to look into them...

I just recently bought a Sony VPH-1031q from ebay for $200 + $85 shipping. Thats about the price of my old lcd setup on a projector. The image is outstanding with a crt. It has true blacks and very bright clear whites. Also, I got very lucky and received HACC/HD-6 lenses, and the crt's have absolutly no visible wear on them. Ebay would be the place to get one, just make sure they pack the projector very well.

The 1031q is a very very nice machine for its money. Its able to produce 1080i HDTV images. Its also one of the smaller and quieter crt projectors you can buy. If your looking for a plug and play projector though, crt is definitely not your choice. You have to constantly adjust it until its perfect. Once you get this done though, you should only have to adjust is 2-3 times per year. But the initial setup is a pain.

good stuff to know....initial adjustment is fine with me as long as it gives the results i am hoping for. 🙂 :devily: i just hope i can find a good deal like you do, woooo, no burn in and it was under $300...ill have to keep my fingers crossed!
