Crossover for Peerless Pipes?

Hi everyone,

In need of some help. I've been building bob brine's peerless pipes over the last few weekends (thanks very much for the research you've put into these bob). I already have some vifa tweeters (D27-45-05) and I dont know if I can use the same crossover that bob recommends on his site (www.geocities.com/rbrines1). The woofer used is a Peerless CSX 6.5" (850122). The tweeter is only 6ohm whilst the woofer is 8ohm, so I am not sure what effect this will have on the crossover.
I was wondering if anyone could be so kind as to suggest a design for a new crossover that would be appropriate. I've invited friends over for a bbq to test them, so if they're not ready i'll be in trouble 🙂
When looking for parts for the recommended crossover today, I also found that I could only get inductors that were 1.8mH or 2.7mH, as opposed to 2.0mH. Would this make a big difference to the effect of the crossover, or should I invest in a multimeter?

Thanks very much for your time,

Pete.

😀 Hi, you can series connect a 0.2mh with the 1.8 mH to give you the required value of 2. mH, TRUST ME IT WILL WORK.... xcheers and best regards to the sunshine state from dreary ol' adelaide [ city of churches &fine wine and food:drink: ] TC hope this is not too late for the barby!😀

This tip comes from Bob:

adjust the tweeter level with R1
8R/6R isn't very importatnt, since most of the time when they are 6R that's because the min impedance is 6R, and when they are 8R, that's an average. Both mean the same.

BTW, how do they sound? And we want pictures 😀

As long at the tweeter's FR curve is reasonable close to the 811815 curve on the low end, most any tweeter should work with this XO. Adjust R1 to get the tweeter level correct, but don't go below 4ohm. R1 pretty much sets the overall speaker impedance. The zobel (sort of) on the 811815 brings down the top end somewhat. It may not be needed with a really smooth or droopy tweeter. But, then, you are pretty much starting over with the XO.

If the overal sound is too layed back for you, you might try a 150uH value for L1.

BTW, the inductor I used for L2 is a 2.omH Erse unit. Available from PE.

Bob
