Crossover design - No tools first step

Hi, guys.

First off All, I'm triyng to do the things at the lowest budget possible. Buying a lot of tools isn't an option for now.

I hope you all understand that is not my option, it's my reality.

Well... A Have a pair of old Sony 2 way Speakers (8" woofer/ 2" Tweeter) in an Onkyo TX-SR500.

For my first Crossover design I just want to get the single caps out and made a Crossover to put in place.

What's the most important thing to consider in this case?

Tank you all.

You might be best off just replacing the old, cheap capacitor with a new one of the same value.
Some of the best lower cost speaker systems have only a capacitor for the tweeter, and run the
woofer full range. Sometimes a series resistor is added to the tweeter to better match the levels.

But you could try rolling off the top end of the woofer with an inductor. These two drivers
will just barely meet in the middle though, if they can even do that.

As it is my first step doing a crossover I wanted to design something simple as a 2nd order for the tweeter. After that I´m trying to design for bot drivers, just to learn the diference.

I Know that measurements are far important for a really good result, but I´m starting to pratice what I learn for last year and low budget is important.

The caps on Tweeter is a 3,3uF polarized and 6ohm Tweeter

Something about 10KHz, right?

The new 2nd order crossver I can design at the same XO point?

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Thats was my first step. I replace de very very old eletro cap for a new eletro same value.

Then I replace the eletro for a polyester and the result whas very good.

Now I need to do another step.

After all the lessons with this 2way speaker I wil change the Gradiente 3way speaker.

Learning how to do it is good. For it to sound right you may need to do the woofer as well.

Maybe lower. When a simple crossover uses just a capacitor it is usually crossed higher.
