Crossover comparison/explanation

Any chance someone can explain the difference between these 2 board designs? As you may have guessed these are 2 Econowave designs, fairly similar but with different values for most components - i picked one of them for a build about a year ago, it was later suggested i could have used the other diagram - i've always wondered how different my build would have sounded if i'd picked the latter 🙂

The second network ( with L2 having a value at less than 1/2 the size of the first ) has much less Baffle Step Compensation ( ultimately reducing the midrange content in the crossover area / plus less mids a good octave below that ).

The second network ( by jackgiff ) uses stock values for the lowpass section.
- Overall, it'll be somewhat louder but with less bass response.

#2 was widely accepted by many eWavers modding old hifi speakers ( even though book values don't usually work well in these situations > it's "acceptance" would make a great study as to why ).

You could try it ( you'll definitely get more midrange content from the woofer > maybe too much > if so, stick a resistor between C2 and ground > valued anywhere from 0.5R to @ 6.0R ).

🙂
