Does anyone have any experience with using tapped crossover chokes which act as an auto transformer?
I am refering to some of the older JBL/Altec networks that were either iron or ferrite cored and were tapped to provide some attenuation for the highpass network rather than a L pad.

I once ripped apart a theatre organ with such a setup...
it was really bizarre. In order to get a high-range speaker, they took a 12" woofer and misplaced the magnet so that the voice coil was pinched. The woofer then would only respond to high frequencies. Then there was a transformer before the 15" low-range speaker (which I actually still have, if I could only find a good use for it.) It was a truly bizarre setup.

Yup! Look up ALK Crossovers on the web. In certain applications they work quite well.
