Creating a new headphone listening room. My insanity inside

The wife hasn't left me yet, but she did walk in and just say "wow" and walked away. It wasn't a good "wow". 😀 I don't think she realized just how many existed in our home until I hung them up.

We moved and now I'm finally able to create a dedicated headphone listening room. Still have a ways to go with the pegs, have more headphones to hang, but this is what I've got so far! Collected all these over the years, and more.

I'm a collector of the bizarre. Most are not too pricy, but all are dear to me. My favorites are my AKG k444 that I converted to bluetooth, (I like it for the aesthetics, it's just a piece of it's time). The 6xx is my favorite all-rounder, but the AKG k240DF is catching up. For moderns, the Sivga SV-004 is mighty awesome, and the KPH-30s are my portable choice. The Pioneer A-1000's are okay sometimes.

(The Sonic Pro-26's next to the Pioneer SE-L40's are SURPRISINGLY great sounding. Dare I say, they sound better than what they're trying to copy.)

Many of the ones without cables are either converted to balanced or bluetooth. Even have some bluetooth ones converted to wired! Balanced ones are usually higher impedance cans, only to achieve a more suitable volume level when used on the go with my Fiio and A/K devices. Bluetooth conversions were for a retro modern style and portability without the blasted cable making me trip while listening at work.

That's impressive. Or I should say - Wow! 😀

Back in 2018 I starting buying quadraphonic headphones, but stopped myself before getting carried away. I still want more, tho. What have you used and what do you like for your Bluetooth conversions?

you are a Headphoniac 😀

i only have Sennheiser HD555 + HD650 and i have bought several types of hanger but this one is the best version for me now

i bought it from local online shop only $1.5 each, made from plastic but not empty inside which make it very solid because it provides a hole for screw. unlike majority of the hanger using 3M tape which is not a permanent solution

Thank you! Well, for the BT conversions, I've used a whole gamut of BT Rx/mW amp combos found on Amazon and elsewhere. But to be totally honest with you, the cheapest and most enjoyable way to go is to just buy cheap bluetooth headphones and rip out the guts. This way you've got the board and the battery and the whole 9 yards for cheap, and you don't get the issues many modules can have, which I listed in the next paragraph - in my case, I bought a whole TON of Heyday BT headphones from Target, (seen on my wall, on the left, there's 2 identical cans... one has a 3.5mm TRRS jack sticking from the side... that's the one I ripped the guts out of and instead made wired/balanced.) they were on clearance for $7 - couldn't beat it! It works in some applications, but sometimes I have to drill holes and add buttons and such, for vol up, down, etc, so...

It might be better to go with a Makerfocus or a Hiletgo M18 board, that way there's minimal work to be done, but volume would then be controlled via your phone, dap, etc. - You'll also need a charging board for the module's battery, a makerfocus tp4056 works just fine. I've tried other brands of bt boards, but I find a lot of them making fun "modem sounds"😀 when there's no audio playing, or a loud *** tone when you first start it up, so you can go deaf lol... I usually use a 200 mAh lipo.

One of my most fun projects was making a bass cannon headphone... that thing was NONSENSE. My neighbor saw it and lusted after it, I ended up giving it to him. 70mm high excursion drivers, mini tone control board via a wired remote to tame the mids and piercing highs, and a 5w BT amp. It was too stupid, but really fun. You could feel the air puff out of the portholes we drilled on the side. The headphone was an old Dokorder, in great shape. Still works, and it's still ludicrous. Easily a basshead's dream, but obviously sounds terrible with horrible muddy mids. 1500 mAh battery, lasted for WEEKS lol. I'll try and borrow it back from him and post some pics.

My ambition is to create a YouTube channel focusing on reviews and measurements for obscure and vintage headphones, for posterity. I'd also like to chronicle some of my projects, so people can follow along and also suggest improvements to me. We're working on it, hoping to have some videos up by end of month.

i had a thought it was not 3d printed because of it's very cheap price, how is it possible. but when i search from google image, i get the same exact photo from my local seller

this is the international website, no result from ebay or aliexpress
3D printed Headphone Holder | All3DP

this is from local online shop
https://www.tokopedia.com/daviart/gantungan-headset-headphone-gaming

if you go to 3d printing service, i'm sure you'll be charged more than $1 each but i think it's worthed than just a plain wall hanger

Thanks for that, it helps me. I recently bought a pair of cheapo Bluedio BT headphones at a garage sale and was thinking about ripping them apart to steal the Bluetooth module. But I kinda like the Bluedio. It's very dull sounding, so not great on vocals, but for some music I enjoy the dullness, it means zero listening fatigue. I can wear them for a long time without them wearing me out.
