Crate TX50DB Pots

Hi,

I have a Crate TX50DB amplifier, and the pots are beginning to fail. I could find the whole circuit board, but I'd rather repair the existing one if I can.

I looked at it, and it looks like a simple enough job, but I'm not sure as to the exact specs needed for the part. I have the schematic, and it's apparently a 10 kilo ohm part, but that's about as far as I've gotten.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

C

p.s. This is my first post here, by the way!

Any time I work on a SLM product (Crate, Ampeg, etc.) it seems their parts are just different enough physically that standard parts won't fit. Contact LOUD Technologies for parts, they bought SLM a few years ago and still have some old parts available. The parts are very inexpensive and won't create headaches trying to retro fit something else.

Do yourself a favor and use the phone. Emails can get shucked aside, or misdirected, and if a two way dialog is needed, that can be even worse. get on the phone and talk to someone in customer service. if you know what you want, just contact someone in parts.

I just sold off all my Crate pots last week, sorry. But the part numbers are on the backs of them. if you see a number like 70-153-01, that is the Crate part number, and that is what you would ask for.

Make your parts list, and ask for each one. if they have them in stock, you might be able to place an order on the spot. I think they are now selling small parts to customers. if not, ther are Crate parts sellers.

You can find electrically equivalent parts, but none that have the same physical shape. real Crate parts will fit the circuit board, have the proper size shaft to fit the knobs, and proper size bushing to fit the panel hole, and it will be spaced right.

But before you do that, have you first resoldered the pots in question? And while you are at it check the solder on all jacks. And if that is all OK< have you cleaned the pots with something like Deoxit? Most controls clean up well.
