CPU Adhesive tape vs Silipad

Folks:

After a frustrating hour in Fry's, I can not find extra Silipad insulators for my TO-3p mosfet's.

I did find some "CPU Thermal tape" which is for sticking a CPU to a heat sink. There's no grounding issues there, so I don't know if this will inslulate or not. It will be a mounting method (no bolts) as well as good thermal condutivity.

Do you think I can use the CPU tape for my amp?

What's TO-3p? Is it the same as TO-3? I've got a lot of these pads.

Thermal resistance vs voltage rating

Watch the thermal resistance on some of those silpad type materials. The ones with a high voltage rating (often used for SMPS's etc) have pretty ordinary thermal performance. Also, the thinner the pad/tape is, the flatter your surfaces have to be.

I think TO3-P is like TO-247 but with a bit of the metal tab exposed around the top edge, also the mounting hole is not insulated like in the '47.

GP.

Right, like a TO-247; here's a picture:

The non insulated is the big issue, it HAS to be isolated from the heat sink, or I'll be frying bacon instead of listning to music!

I don't see how thermal paste will help do that.

Where can I get some Silipad's? I couldn't find any at Mouser
