There is no doubt replacing PIO w/ a film cap changes the sound.

if you are building amps, why do that at all? why not pick your poison beforehand?

"It's an obvious thing.. Nothing psychoacoustic."

Good for you. Enjoy!

Just please don't design my airplane or heart monitor using those standards.

hehehe...even if you can listen thru your nose, the sound gets processed by your brains eventually.....the brain is where it all happens...the ears are just collection points....a transducer changing air pressure to sounds, all in our heads...

If everybody could trust their ears, why do so many people buy MP3 players and Blose "HiFi" equipment?

I know that my ears are not what they used to be, and are getting worse due to Meniere's disease. I need to play my music quite loudly to mask the tinnitus.

I know what I can measure, and what measurements I make are important, and what measurements correlate poorly to listening pleasure, but must be made (THD for example).

I TRUST my measurement equipment, and LISTEN with my ears. I know I got it right when both are happy. And, THD>1% at mid power on an SE amp IS a happy measurement if the FFT shows it to be mostly H2.

There are reasons why a PIO and a polypropylene cap sound different, but things like dissipation factor and dielectric absorption can not be measured with budget equipment.

Do you really think a guy of your calibre needs to justify your ears..😀😛

You Da man init...only my 2 pence..
Anyway that box looks nice I'll have that one. 😀

The engineer in me tells me to verify everything that I can.

I have spent years (all the way back to 12 bit sound cards in 8 bit computers) recording and analyzing live music.

I was learning how to record the input, electrical output of an amp and the acoustical output of the speakers when I had to tear down my lab.
