I'm going to build a projector using a 7" lilliput and i was wondering if there is a good CHEAP light source would be?
I was also wondering what is better to use a 7" lilliput or a sharp qa lcd panel?
I would like to use a The Icecap 400w HQI Metal Halide Ballast but they run about $175+ and i would rather look for an alturnative. Is there a good one?
Something bright and something with long lamp life...?
idealy metal halide because the bulbs last for 10,000 hours.
😕

Are u sure u want 400 watts??? Maybe a 175 W medium base lamp tops, probably a 50 or 70 W would be more than adequate. How close do you intend to place the lamp to the LCD? How large of an image are you trying to project?
I'm in a similar situation.
I've pretty much got my parts together (a CT-522a lcd panel) and a MK3 kit from diylabs.org. I'm still undecided on the type of ballast and lamp. The electronic ballast they have over at diylabs.org is very expensive. It's $215 for a 400Watt.
I realized that I could get a non-electronic, core and coil type ballast at 1000bulbs.com for a fraction of that (an MH400/MT ballast, a M400SX/BT28/HOR (EYE) bulb , and a Mogul Base HID Socket).
My question is this: for those who have a non-electronic ballast, is there an audible hum as claimed on the diylabs.org site? Is it really worth an extra ~$112 to get the electronic IceCap ballast they're offering? This is one of the last things I have to decide on as far as purchasing parts goes, so any help would be greatly appreciated for this noob.
P.S. I realize that many people are using that 1000bulbs.com ballast and bulb from their gallery shots, but nobody has metioned any noise issues. Thanks.
