Cooking: the DIY you can eat!

OK,

Now keep in mind, I've eaten huge squirming grubs fresh from a tree stump in Guatamala... this because the little children made a heavenly find and had to share, in total kindness, their treat with the Sasquatch that came from America to get their power system and well pump working again.

I have eaten raw squid legs in Japan for reasons of sheer manhood (beer pressure).

I have eaten veeeerrrrrryy strange soup from a rusty bowl in Belize because I was really... just... that... hungry.

I even drank some nasty grog in southern Mexico, again to be cordial, knowing full well that it seemed to make its followers blind & psychotic (permanently... I can at least see now).

I have never had truffles. What's it all about? Do these things taste like mushrooms in general? Cause if they do... they're off the Poo's list. I wanna believe I would like them because pigs do; and I like pigs...

Who can tell me?

Cal,

Arizona is real melting pot for cuisine. Phoenix wasn't really here 40 years ago... so to speak... so everything, including culture, is imported and recent.

We have Americanized versions of Mexican food... but really very little authentic stuff. I'm not a big fan of the stuff... cause it makes wookies fat.

We got some Southwest style stuff which is all new and trendy.

As far as beef goes... I get the stuff that grows up nort... cows lazing in big lawn chairs eating corn on the cob all day. Arizona cows are scrawny and thirsty.

We actually have some good mom/pop shops from around the world... Indian, Greek, Thai, Vietnamese, Brazilian... that's the stuff I go for. It's hard to find... and you don't dare go behind the restaurants for fear of seeing the critteres in cages that we would normally adopt.

Real Maple syrup.

Ummmm... maple surple

a splash in a glass... nuke in the microwave for 20-30 sec. Blend in your favorite unsweetened cocoa powder until you have a nice creamy sauce... use on ice cream or to make hot chocolate.

Note: the best maple surple is C or D grade. The thickest, darkest is the tastiest. Usually cheaper too.

They taste less like mushrooms and more like I would imagine poo to taste.

It has to say "Made in Canada/Ireland/Tennesee".

Not a scotch drinker Poobah? Oh well, I knew we had to differ somewhere. I like your post about what you have found yourself eating. I can relate. I continue to eat things like feet, ears, lung, intestine, stomach and other such delicacies to this day. Apologies to the veggies and vegans but I don't believe things should go to waist, I mean waste.

Uh oh, we sure see eye to eye, or is it I to I in the case of the frustrated airplane, but I must suggest a truffle, if the taste is acquired, is a beautiful thing. Something like the poor misunderstood Durian, only not as stinky.

Who here eats durian? (the limburger of fruit)

Headcheese? The kitty likes it...

Sushi? Sushi is family of rice dishes. Sashimi is raw fish... the Japanase are into it because they're low on charcoal. A bag of charcoal in Japan is the same size as a 1 lb. grind-your-own coffee sack (really)... and it 'bout $8. I like warm meat... that means cooked... or... live.
