converting to 3D... slight hitch

So I have had my DIY projector for some time now... in fact had it moved to the shed as my daughter had/is sleeping in the area I would normally view it in... but I recently won a Samsung 3D 23 inch monitor on eBay for $25 and couldn't resist the chance to try and add 3D capability to my projector. The only problem is, the reason the monitor was so cheap is it has a vertical line/section of the screen. Now upon opening it up I could see that one of the FFC's has suffered what looks like minor burn damage (even the inside of the frame had what appeared to be slight scorch marks/staining. I did my best to clean the cable up in case it was simply the crud on top that was causing a short or something (unlikely I know given it is supposed to be insulated)... the problem is indeed still there.
So a couple of questions for the clever among us... would it be possible to repair (either by way of microsoldering or similar) the cable in the patches that seem to have lost their contacts... or, is it possible to purchase/source a replacement FFC and remove the current one and install the replacement?
No pictures yet but can provide if needed. Thanks for any help... if it is relevant I'm in Melbourne Australia (in terms of parts availability).
