I have a DIY floorstanding speaker cabinet with a reflex port just below the mid-bass driver.
The cabinet is lined with acoustic foam but not stuffed.
If I wanted to try to convert it to an aperiodic system which of the following approaches would be best?
a) Stuff the port with foam/long-hair wool and leave the cabinet as is
b) Stuff the cabinet dead and leave the port as is
c) Stuff the cabinet dead and remove the port (easily done), leaving a hole just below the mid-bass driver
d) Leave cabinet, remove port and fit home made 'acoustic resistor' in its place
e) Stuff cabinet, remove port and fit home made 'acoustic resistor'

You could try c,d, or e, but I would suggest trying all of them to see what sounds good with your existing cabinet dimensions. However, back the experimenting up with lots of measuring and listening.
Determine the impedance at Fb, the tuning frequency. Should be low compared to nominal impedance.
Put more than usual amount of stuffing in cabinet, (for a reflex), then stuff the port until the impedance of the Fb rises up somewhat above the nominal impedance. See how it sounds.
