Not sure if this is a known trick, so I thought I'd share this.
I like vintage stereos but was frustrated trying to find good quality replacements for the old splined shaft pots. Most, if not all good pots have a round shaft. Yes there are couplers, but they're too bulky. Then I found these 6mm to 1/4" brass adapter sleeves. I cut off the splined shaft from a cheap pot, then took this 25mm Vishay Cermet and cut it down to about 7mm, and using the brass adapter and JB Weld epoxy, I now have a 30mm splined shaft cermet. It feels sturdy and straight and now I can use the original knobs and it fits right where the original pot was. Pretty slick.

I roughed up the shaft and the the brass coupler with sand paper, then I coated the inside of the coupler with epoxy using a cotton swab. Just to be safe, I wrapped some thread around the shaft and pushed it up against the bushing to protect it from any epoxy getting in there.
Let it dry for 24 hrs and it's solid as can be.

Interesting. However, a 5 pack of those brass adapters is $7.79 on Amazon. com and, choke, cough, $69.26 on Amazon.ca. Nice idea, but I'm not paying that much for 5 little brass tubes. (And, just in case someone would like to tell me that I could, in fact, order from Amazon.com - I know that.)
In less time than it took you to write that gripe, you could have done a simple search.
Try "6mm to 1/4 inch pot adapter" and you'll find plenty of alternatives to Amazon.

I like your method, just didn't understand the ridiculous price difference on the two Amazon's. And yes, if I planned to do this in the near future, I would have searched, but I'm not, so didn't want to spend time on a search.
