I’ve been reading various accounts of people using various tuba/wrecker type horns to great effect in their home theatres. I would like to build something similar but due to where I’m located the cost of importing all the gear is prohibitively expensive. I have a 12inch ported sub made by wharfedale- powercube 12 150w-kicking around- could I utilise the driver and amp in a horn/tl build and expect to get results better than what it already produces? Is it worth exploring further?

In theory, though without at least driver T/S specs.......... and note that how low it goes depends on how big it can be and how much room/boundary gain it will have.

Unlikely for a built-in driver. Have you considered measuring it? ThisI was hoping there might be a database somewhere with the driver information

although I don't know how much shipping is to...New Zealand? It's hard to see the flag by your name. You could also post a thread here and at other sites like

and probably others including car audio sites, to ask if someone nearby can measure your driver. It's also possible to do it with a resistor and a good AC voltmeter (rated minimum 20-1000 Hz I'd say).
You can build a large box? That's the way to improve performance-a larger box and a matching driver for better total sensitivity at the bottom octaves, then 150W can play pretty loud. It's not likely a different box will improve the driver you have in the Wharfedale. Without measuring the parameters it's impossible to say if it is well suited to a horn.
