Controlling a latching relay with a single button?

Hi all, I was planning on designing a remote-control IR receiver as an exercise and I'd like to control a latching relay with a single button. What is the best way to do this?
I want one push of the button to activate latch relay on and another push to activate latch relay off. I already came accross many solutions using flipflops or microprocessors, but for this specific exercise I'm limited to a single relay and jellybean components.

H bridge and some logic.
Dual polarity supply will make it very easy.

Would this be any use:
