I've pulled out the old balance pot on an old diy amp I acquired recently. I would like to replace it with wire/resistors but I'm not sure about the connections.
The left pin receives the signal from the volume pot, the centre goes to ground, and I'm not sure about the right pot.
When the pot is at the centre the resistance between Left/centre and right/centre is 425k on both sides. The resistance between left and right is constant at about 830k.
Do I need to connnect the left and right pins via a resistor or just the left to centre and right to centre? Do these need to be resistors or can it be wire?
Unfortunately I dont have a schematic and I'm not going to find one since I can't even identify this old kit so I'm limited to some guess work.
Any input would help.
Thanks

I would think that 2, off 470 ohm resistors connected between each end connection to earth would make a good substitute. Probably without these resistors you will find that the volume control will give a very high signal at low settings.

is it a tube amp or a transistor amp?
........try to leave out this pot perhaps it works
.......or build in res 470k just the left to centre and right to centre.

470 ohm is too low. Looks like the balance pot is a 1meg pot. You need two resistors, one from each outer pin to the middle pin, each 430k. But personally I would just not put anything back and live with the increase in achieveable level.

Been a long day
Just substitute K for R......🙂
