I read some old threads at diy about this great cd player specially by the the legendary! And genius Stephen sank who I remember was probably the best nakamichi engineer use to be often at nakamichi cassette deck forum I don’t know where he is now but he has advised in a thread dated 2011 and in that thread he has advised a owner like me to replace all the electrolytic capacitor in the cd player and it will solve the problem and I intend to do so ! 👍😊✅

Hi Ali,
I was authorized warranty for Nakamichi, extremely familiar with their equipment. It was a team of gifted engineers who really knew what they were doing. I love my Nakamichi equipment.

I wish you luck in working on your CD player, but you need to find out what the problem is before diving in. What was recommended may in fact not solve the problem, maybe it will. Your disc table may have slipped down on the shaft as well.

Capacitors all perform different jobs and no one make and model is suitable for each position. We have newer types that in some locations will perform better. Also make certain the new capacitor physically fits properly. Buying a "kit" ensures you'll probably be using sub-standard parts. That's a Philips transport, so common Philips issues apply.

Please, you don't need to post in bold.

Hi anatech, do you still service the meridian 207 cd player ? and nakamichi cassette decks? I have at one time owned every hi end model of nakamichi cassette deck including the mighty 1000ZXL, 700ZXL, 700ZXE, ZX-9, ZX-7, RX 505, BX 300 CR 7 , 550 portable and LX -3 and LX-5 not to forget the 480. I was suprised how good the 480 model sound when caps have been replaced! 480 is often discarded as lowly entry level model me being one too lol🙂 but my mind changed when heard it with new caps ! Sorry for the bold I didn’t even realize I was typing bold lol🙂

I do, but the border is a real pain. The Canadian government charges duties and taxes which you are supposed to get back after you apply - months later if they agree. Consider that money gone.

The 480 sounds great, 482 better of course. The 1000ZXL and limited were the best machines Nak made. I've serviced them. I still have a CR-5, BX-300 and a Dragon. Parts are a problem, like capstan bearings. The standard transport #1 (480 to Dragon) mechanisms have a repair kit that is NLA, cracked nylon injected around the metal frames.

I service all CD players, been in from the ground floor. Again the biggest concern is getting that stuff across the border. It's so stupid.

There has got to be some very good technicians closer to you. I get some specialty things, like Counterpoint and a couple other brands where good service typically doesn't exist. People even drive stuff up, and that is so expensive to do. I can't recommend it. Thank you though.
