I am currently building an amplifier to power a speaker. I have recently bought a 3.5mm PCB Mounting MonoSocket, like the one here.....

I am building the amplifier on a breadboard at the moment and want to be able to connect the mono socket to the input of my amplifier. There are 3 pins/connections (maybe they have a different name) and I am not sure where each pin should go to.
There is one pin at the front, one at the back, and one on the side.
If anybody could help me identify where they connect to, that would be great.
Thanks!

If you have a mono pin, insert it into the socket and check with DMM, which connections it makes on the socket. It will not make connection to the third pin and ignore it/leave it open.

Edit: I saw the photo in the link. The pin you see in the picture is not connected.

the third pin(the one at the side) is a switching contact(allows the tip pin to be grounded when a plug is removed)

It also serves other purpose like switching off other thing like speaker, if connected to this pin, and other uses like attenuation for aux input instead of a mic.
