Cone Profile: What effect?

Thanks PLB, I will check it out. Backbone of England? I gather youre a fellow Midlander then?
SpeakerDR, i hate the term non newtonian haha. If u mean a thixotropic mix of water and cornflour, or Custard then yes ive tried this once. Like talcum powder and dry methods it gives a visual of whats occuring, but with the added mass in the thixotropic method, thats all it is useful for, a clue into what happens. Thanks for the advice.
I may have to google for my life's worth and uncover a frequency response for the CP134 And 168...dont like my chances much though.

Hi again people,

This is perhaps a bit of a newbie question.

Is there a generalised 'effect' on breakup characteristics of a driver, depending upon its cone profile?

Visaton was in the eighties proud on it curved cone profile that shout help to prevent a wave to roll from center to the edge of the cone. The NAWI cone.
Nicht abwikkelbar.

This shout reduce effects where the cone is not stiff enough. Because it shout act like a piston. A piston of the size Sd with a extrusion and frequency gives a sound pressure. The piston shout be stiff to move always de same surface.

Nawi:Also discussed here.

When you see a cone as a piston it is logical to make it flat so all acoustic centers are in the same axes.
Like this vintage active flatcone 3way loudspeaker of Philips(mfb), with a feedback circuit to the amplifier in the woofer. It is hard to make a flat light stiff flat cone.

If folks won't bother to go to the papers in AES where the majority of this question was answered in the 1950's, then just accept what sreten said and leave it be with your second guessing and examples that totally failed. It is the result that matters, and unless you are planning on designing your own speaker, it does not matter how the designer met his goals. Do the tests and stay two octaves away from the problem. Done.

as for designing my own cone, i may one day, and follow in my fathers footsteps, but for now, no.tvrgeek, thanks. I normally respect your opinion but of late ive noticed a cantankerous streak in the replies from those i respect the most. Pity. Its all becoming a little passé. Thanks for the extraneous info guys, interesting stuff, learning is always fun and ill never grow tired of it; even if others deem it unnecessary for me to know. Once again, thanks to the positive folks out there, im taking a break from posting. Had enough of sadsacks commenting negatively on a thread which, if indeed is so pointless, is also not worthy of their reply. So why reply? I shall sort some sawdust generation on a mondo scale, and THEN maybe repost, when i have less pointless questions.buzz well and truely killed off.MOD, DELETE THREAD PLEASE.
