i have some Yamaha 120watt in wall speakers (NS-IW470) here at work and was thinking of installing them in a computer lab...

is there a simple way i can amplify these? something i can hide, maybe? volume controlled by the signal level of the computer's speaker output?

How about a T-amp; complete boards can be bought on eBay for around $20. Search for TA2024, or check the digital amp forum here. The hardest part is finding a suitable power supply; maybe it can run off the PC power supply. Or use a 12V wall wart from a scanner or PC speakers; just make sure it's regulated so no-load voltage isn't too high.

Just check amplifiers power. If it is 30w and 12V P=I*U =2.5A now just divide with effiency, for example D Class with 80% I would say 3A. But probably best solution will be PC PSU. Try it, if there is not any noises - use that. Yellow wire = + and Black wire will be GND. And remember that 12V AC means 12V*2^2-1.6 = around 15V DC. So be careful.
